Feedback on Shorter Posts

by takuin on Thursday, November 13, 2008 · 8 comments

So what do you, as the reader, think of the daily aside posts? Does the short length fit nicely into regular reading? Or is it a bit too much to deal with everyday? I enjoy the discussions brought out in the asides, and it also makes it easier to focus more directly on your comments.

What do you think?

I like the short posts.

Personally, i enjoy the daily posts.
I think the short intro. to a subject works well and promotes further discussion where people can share ideas and opinions, giving you an opportunity to elaborate on the topic at hand.
Also, i see that this format leaves room for the discussion to unfold naturally in whatever direction your readers wish to take it.

I think you’re cheating again – a post about posting?? (just kidding)
I’ve enjoyed the extra discussion. It’s surprising how one short post can create as much debate as a longer thought.

It is curious how it evolves though. I decided to limit myself to a few quality blogs due to time, then all of them slowed way down in posts – until this.
It is harder to keep up with many posts but with shorter articles, one can respond more quickly. If it was long term, I don’t think I could keep up, but it has been interesting.

Thank you, May. I appreciate the feedback.

Kris,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. This is something I wanted to do before, but I was never sure of how to approach it.

Really, if we are talking about this “inner work,” we don’t need a large series of articles to get to the point; just a question or two. The reader writes a larger article in their mind when they start to go into these things. It is their work, and not mine.

I do, of course, like more in-depth articles. But in a spiritual type of writing, I do not need someone to come to a conclusion and tell me how things are. I just need a springboard to jump off of so I might find out for myself.

Of course, you don’t need a springboard in order to jump, but it is nice to have a head start sometimes.

Davidya,

You think I am cheating now, just wait until I take Saturday and Sunday off! Haha.

You are right. The shorter posts do help bring about faster responses. However, there does need to be a natural rhythm of some sort. Everyday is not quite right for this sort of material. But the short length is able to sustain participation for longer periods of time, it seems.

Five days per week seems easily manageable for those people into regular participation. And it also brings out the lurkers that say very little. :)

I’ve not decided on the right frequency yet, but the feedback is interesting so far.

I, for one, like this format. It seems to suit your style of asking those probing questions that challenge my (and one would hope other reader’s) assumptions.

You say there must be a natural rhythm to the process though. Would not any rhythm that occurs be the “natural” one? I am not saying this is so, merely asking the question.

Thanks, Eric.

There is the natural rhythm of the writer and the natural rhythm for the reader. One is being, and the other is guessing, I suppose. If I decide to stick with a Mon-Fri posting schedule, it is not necessarily natural. But it is probably easily sustainable.

Rhythm is a very interesting subject. I am not sure I have posted anything here on that subject. I may do that soon.

The rhythm of nature is the rhythm of life, and the rhythm of thought is the rhythm of decay. It is not that one is right or wrong, and the words I use are not necessarily very important. But I may go into this soon.

Thanks for the feedback, Eric.
