Akiko and I are heading off to Toyama for the New Year. We leave on the 29th and return around the 5th. Perhaps THIS TIME I’ll be able to get a few photos of the mountains. (The area is constantly cloudy)
A few highlights: eating at my favorite local curry restaurant, viewing a Francis Bacon painting, and walking the dog in the snow.
What are YOU doing for the New Year?

Have a great one, Takuin. Unusually, we’ve had a bunch of snow here and it’s stuck around. This has changed a number of peoples travel plans, creating many spontaneous events. We’ve been chatting about what a transformative but bizarre year it’s been.
For New Years, I’m helping a friend prep an art show, then spending time with good friends.
It was a fine time. But no curry, no mountains, and no Francis Bacon. And we were delayed one day on the departure and one day on the return. The actual “mechanics” of the trip were awful, but it all worked itself out (as it always does).
Curious how often the future is not what was expected when it becomes real. (laughs) When there is no attachment to what unfolds, it makes it much more fine, whatever it is.
