Hey Patricia,

I was about to question what league you are out of, but you did it for yourself. Haha.

There was a homeless man in Boston that sort of forced others into that state you experienced. He was known as Mr. Butch. Any stigma, idea, or stereotype of homeless people went out the window whenever he was around.

I lived in Boston for ten years, and on the day I left I ran into Mr. Butch in Allston. He was playing his guitar outside of the local McDonalds. We said a few words to one another, but I do not remember what they were. He always seemed to be in a good mood.

Anyway, without that separation, the "Oh, look at the pitiful homeless person" nonsense, it becomes clear what each of us are. Not really who we are, but what.

One can look at the homeless person and use that opportunity to see what occurs in their minds. It can be easy to do, as the ideas of separation may be strong in that case, but it can be a selfish pursuit. If one is serious, they would do the very same thing with the person that shares their bed. But we rarely ever question the things we find comfort in, and conversely, we never question the things that would most certainly disturb us or kick up the dust.

Takuin, Tom's articles have created some really interesting conversations. I feel so out of your league in this discusssion. What I have discovered for myself is that if something about another person irritates me, the feeling and thoughts are about me, not the other person. Even my own feeling out of your league spiritually is my own stuff and has nothing to do with you.

One of my best teachers was a homeless man that I didn't actually meet. I saw him across the street from where I was working late one night with my husband. Instead of focusing on his circumstances and feeling sad or helpless to help him, I reached out and connected on a spiritual level with him and experienced the oneness of both of us as a part of the Spirit of God/Universal Source where we are all one with no differences, no separateness, no emotions others than Love. It was a beautiful experience that I will never forget.
