I agree with Albert that your “the nonexistence of a center that perceives” is an exquisite use of words.

I add as an aside that certain Hindu Advaitist schools advocate awareness as the “field” that consciousness exists “in” since consciousness can “contain,” or be conscious of, while awareness does not “contain.” But I think this is just theosophical hair-splitting.

Nevertheless, I tend to hold more toward awareness as the “foundation”(so to speak).
