To Tibi and Benjamin,

Thanks so much for your comments. And it is nice to see others interested in the various elements of fasting and its effects on the body. But unfortunately, I cannot advise you on these matters. For me, the fast was an experiment, and nothing more. I'm not an expert, and it is not something I feel I even have a decent amount of knowledge on.

For Tibi: You'll want to ask people more involved in those things to get an appropriate answer. I'm sorry I can't give you any useful information. Good luck!

For Benjamin: If you're really interested in fasting, do a search for <em>Intermittent Fasting</em> and you'll probably find answers to what you're looking for, or at least a direction to move. Good luck to you!

Thanks to both of you...

I have just begun a 12 hour fast. This is for wieghtloss, since I'm extremly obese. I wiegh 320 lbs and am 5feet ten. I will drink water only and if I'm reading the information on this site correctly I will be able to eat or drink after 12pm. I will be using slimfast with apples for 2 meals and resume my fast at 12am. I am also incorporating a lite work-out ; bent-over rows with a barbell and deadlifts 15x2 reps each. If I am doing something wrong please advise me. Its lonely being obese.

I am 57 years old woman on a six days water fast today. I just had a doctors check up and I am extremely healthy. I would like to continue with my fast but I am worried because today, I did an enema but read somewhere else that it is not healthy to disturb the resting interstine during fast. Am I in danger of loosing my good health?

Thanks, cliffp.

Yes, one's post-fasting activity is very important. You can regret those actions very quickly. ;)

All I wanted to eat, in the days before the end of the fast, was tsukemono. I still am not sure why I felt that way. But in the end, I did eat the tsukemono, and it was great!

I just completed a 35 day water fast. The easy part was the fast. The hard part, to my detriment, is the post fast. I came off the fast the wrong way. I am back on track with fruit and juices and raw veggies. I have sixty pages of my own experience about my water fast: physical, spiritual and mental. I learned a great deal about my experience in relation to myself and my environment. I also shed 50 pounds and still counting. I will more than likely be recovering from the fast for 6 or 7 plus days. Because I did come off of my fast by not respecting the post fast, I have a greater respect for the human body and the treatment it needs to run efficiently. I am glad this happened the mornings befored thanksgiving dinner otherwise my post fast may have extremely painful. When coming off an extended water, when it says juice and raw fruit and veggies, please pay attention. Thank you, Happy Fasting.

Siri,

<blockquote>I suppose you were talking about the spiritual or self helpful effects the fasting can have on mind. In that case I would love to hear more about it.</blockquote>

Yes, that is it. We have all heard of the beneficial effects of fasting. But what others tell us about fasting is not as important as our moment by moment exploration during the fast.

Don't get me wrong, though. What everyone says about fasting may be quite true. But I think you will learn more from this experience if you can discard what you've been told, at least long enough to explore on your own.

For example, let's say someone tells you, "<em>On Day X, you will be irritable and tired.</em>" This may turn out to be true; on that day, you might be irritable and tired. But don't just leave it at that. Explore the irritability; explore the tiredness. See how Siri comes up against it.

If you sit with this and see how you move with it or against it, you will see how you move in all ways, and in all things. Just try to be aware of what is happening, <b>as it is happening</b>.

Thank you, Siri.

Thats a great feedback to hear. Thanks a lot Takuin.... I feel I m out of the guilt of eating , I ate only one time N again i have resumed fast. Well about the reason, I started fasting after reading few articles about how fasting has a positive effect on mind.I wanted to increase my concentration & clarity of mind. Until now i am convinced with the results, I m completely focused while meditating & my mind has stopped drifting here & there. And ofcourse I m feeling light & vibrant.

But I couldnt get as what you meant by "you should probably spend this fasting time to investigate Siri deeply; to find out how Siri functions, to follow the movements of Siri’s mind'.

Siri,

Well, you <b>have</b> broken your fast, but it is certainly not a failure by any means.

Many people will say, if you break the fast as you have done, then the whole thing is destroyed or otherwise broken. But that is nonsense. This is time you will use to learn about Siri; about how you come against the physical world and in what way you might travel.

If you want to complete 28 days, then get right back into it and finish what remains. You do not have to start from the beginning. In fact, it is probably best if you do not go back to the beginning.

I am not sure why you want to fast, whether for health, religion, or whatever reasons. But regardless of your reason, you should probably spend this fasting time to investigate Siri deeply; to find out how Siri functions, to follow the movements of Siri's mind. You can learn volumes on the movement of the self during any crisis, even if it is a 'crisis' you have undergone on purpose, such as a fast.

Please do not despair...you're doing quite well to make 9 days so far. I am sure you'll do fine with what remains.

Also, be sure to keep adequately hydrated during your fast. Even the slightest hint of dehydration can easily be misinterpreted as hunger, and that will just make things more difficult for you.

Above all else, listen to the body, and pay attention to its cues. If you honestly feel the need to end the fast early, by all means end the fast...

...you can always try again at another time. ;)
